This is the final part in this post trilogy, heres how i got into him.
So its 2018, i had been listening to hip hop for a few years now. January 2018 I started listening to Tyler, so if I had to guess Who Dat Boy was one of the first Rocky songs I heard. If I had to guess, my first ever Rocky song I heard was Work Remix. Anyway after Who Dat Boy, I had a mild interest in Rocky. Not enough to listen to him fully, but I was intrigued. Then one of those rap news Instagram pages posted a video of Rocky previewing Distorted Records. That was when I knew I had to listen to Testing. It comes out and I thought it was ok, I only listened to about half of it but the songs i did hear were good. That was the end of me being interested in Rocky until...
Flash Forward to about a month ago. I was thirsty for some new music, so I was like hm. People like ASAP Rocky, I might fw him. So all I did was search his name and watch music videos for songs I hadn’t heard. I had a new appreciation but I didn’t decide to listen to an album till a few days ago. So first I listened to Long Live Asap. Needless to say I loved it. The beats are crazy, now I understand why people love Clams Casino. The only songs I didn’t like were Fucking Problems (ik this song was big, just not my thing), and I Come Apart. I’m so so on 1Train, I can’t decide if I like It or not.
Yesterday I heard ALLA for the first time. So it’s grown on me. My first listen I thought, yeah its good but its not as good as Long Live. The more I listen though, the better it gets. Like I said in a comment, I think on most songs Rocky is ok-good. The production makes up for it if he’s average on a song though. The features are perfectly chosen too.
Then I re-listened to Testing. Its better than I remember. I’m kind of running out of things to say but i fw it. I like the more experimental sound. So in short Rocky da goat, I mean he made a French Montana feature listenable. I’ll listen to Live Love sometime soon, I want his music to set in since I’ve listened to so much new Rocky recently. So I can’t pick just one so I’ll do a top 3 songs on each album.
