Hi folks, long time lurker here, zero time poster. On this rare occasion, I feel as though I actually have something to say. Who am I and why should you care? well, i'm nobody but over the past 7 years I have held bets with every single major bookie that services the UK. All sportsbooks here are regulated so in general you should never have an issue if you are following the rules.
 
However, owing to the coronavirus in March of this year and suspension of every major sports league in the world, it quickly became apparent to me in communications with them that none were adequately prepared to deal with a situation quite like this. I was curious then to see how each would step up (or not) to the plate given that the majority of their T&C’s were fairly lacking RE: a global pandemic. How much can you really trust the books to do right by you and your money when it’s nut-crunching time. Let's find out!
 
I had just over £61k of open NBA division futures across 8 of the major UK bookies when the season was suspended. By day I’m a Chartered accountant (CPA for you folks across the pond) and ex-Big 4 auditor so you better believe I kept a paper trail of every correspondence and read the T&C’s of every site back to front. Now that everything has been settled, I’d like to a take a minute j̶u̶s̶t̶ ̶s̶i̶t̶ ̶r̶i̶g̶h̶t̶ ̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ to write about my experience with each book. Maybe it'll be useful to some of you.
 
These are the 8 sites in question: Bet365, Paddypower, Betfair, Unibet, 888, Betway, Skybet, William Hill (Notable omissions Ladbrokes/Coral and Betstars)
 

• Bet365 – A+ The gold standard and they simply can’t be beaten. Any bettor with experience knows that they are light years ahead of the competition in terms of well everything.. betting limits, customer service, UI, favourable treatment of their punters. This was one of only 2 books which had irrefutable wording in their rules with regards to NBA futures- “all bet stand regardless of team relocation, team name change or season length". No qualms, the ruling is crystal clear.
  
• A quick chat with one of their agents was all I needed to confirm that indeed all my bets are 100% live. Once the season resumed- divisions were marked as settled and paid out as soon as they were mathematically clinched.
  
• In a gesture of goodwill they also voided all Jazz NW division winner futures and paid out for all parlays which they were a leg of. Spoilers- they were the ONLY book to do so. This was worth over £10k to me and highly unexpected as at best I expected a push. The best book there is, period (and not just because they refunded me)
  

 

• PaddpoweBetfair - B+ I’m grouping these 2 together because they share the same traders. Another powerhouse duo in the UK. Terms and conditions here were far less forthcoming than for Bet365. No explicit wording regarding the status of suspended NBA futures but reassurances were given by live chat agents that they were in touch with the league to confirm whether NBA divisions would still be a thing. A fair position to take given the circumstances but still significant uncertainty for me regarding the status of my bets.
• These were however my fastest bets to settle once divisions were eventually clinched so I give them credit for that. No voided bets and everything settled as is. Communication could have been better in the 5 month gap but on the whole, OK.

 

• Unibet/888 - B Again, grouping these 2 because they share the same traders. No particular wording or clear T&C’s with regards to the status of bets in a suspension but Unibet do have their own forum where you can ask questions. For all intents and purposes I found them to be rather useless. A definite clear line of distinction between the agents answering questions and the traders who know (or don’t know) what’s going on but are unable or unwilling to commit to a clear answer one way or the other.
• With no clear T&C’s to cover the situation I understand why they took this line but it was of no comfort to me who had £17k of open bets between them. I was told seemingly every week “there’s a big meeting with the traders to discuss this on Friday” but never heard the outcome or details of said meetings. Definitely felt as though I was being given the run around but hey ultimately these were settled correctly as at the completion of every seeding game. Communication could have been better.

 

• Betway - B Same wording in their T&C’s as Bet365 so I had little worry about my bets being voided. My bets were marked as won as soon as they were clinched but were not paid out until the completion of every seeding game.
• I held no losing bets with Betway so cannot speak to whether they voided losers. Chat agents were clueless of their own T&C’s though when I sought to confirm whether my bets were live during the hiatus but on the whole at least tried to be helpful in our back and forths.

 

• Skybet – B- Semi-clear wording in their T&C’s: “If an NBA Division is not completed within the same calendar year, all Division bets will be made void unless the result has already been determined.” No confirmation from their traders what would happen if the season were totally suspended though, just that that they would resort to the ruling from the official governing body. Fine, what else could they do.
• Bets were settled on completion of all seeding games. Agent’s again a little clueless or hesitant to confirm or deny what would happen in the event of [insert scenario here] but on the whole, okay. Communication could have been better in the hiatus, i'm sensing a theme here..

 

• William Hill – F Maybe I’m being a tad harsh here but in my experience William Hill was by far the worst of all the books to deal with during this time. T&C’s: “Bets will be settled on the division standings on completion of all matches". What does this even mean? For months on end I was unable to get a clear answer from literally anyone. All matches being all matches of the original 82 game schedule, or all matches of the seeding games?
• With hundreds of messages exchanged it seemed crystal clear to me that even they didn’t know or hadn’t decided. On June 14th they ended up voiding all my bets including those which had already clinched by then. To be clear, it wasn’t an issue that these were voided if in fact these were voided in line with their T&C’s. I didn't care how these would be settled. However, the fact that nobody was able to offer any clarity on this one sentence for 3 straight months is ridiculous. Once they were voided then they were able to clarify that actually yes “all games” did in fact mean of the original 82 having having by that point already held onto my money for months longer than necessary.... definitely left a dirty taste in my mouth. Expected better for a book this size. F is for fail.

 
So overall? fairly positive to be honest. You can trust them all to do the right thing... eventually. The main element that was lacking during the down time was communication. I feel as though almost all of them were caught flat footed- didn't what to do, what to say and how to say it to their players when things first went zerodarkthirty, though even that I can sort-of overlook given the unprecedented situation. There is no doubt though, if your market is available on Bet365 and you aren't limited there's little reason to go elsewhere. This has been my TedTalk. Thanks for attending.

6 Steps For Tackling Cheltenham

1. Practice Makes Perfect
When it comes to matched betting you can never get enough practice! You may think you understand every reload strategy there is. However, when the offers come as quickly as they do during Cheltenham, practice can be the difference between getting into breaking the £1,000 profit mark and missing out.
So, make sure that you have familiarised yourself with and practiced the popular horse racing offers before Cheltenham. These include 2nd to SP Fav, 2nd place refund, 4/1 winner, fallers insurance. Simply doing a Saturday’s worth of horse racing reload offers will tick a lot of these boxes.

2. Be Organised
This can be best summed up as - make sure that your money is where it needs to be before the end of the weekend prior to Cheltenham (7th & 8th March).
Additionally, try to have completed the majority of the welcome offers for the major bookmakers. The key bookmaker to have ready is Bet365 – their Horse racing offer during the festival is massively profitable.
Set up a separate PayPal for faster withdrawals.
If you've not got a massive exchange balance, then on this rare occasion we recommend boosting its size using your own funds. Of course, because you’re matched betting the only risk is the tiny qualifying loss per offer, which you should be used to by now. The last thing you want is to be missing out on offers and not making the most of the available profit.
Try to get some bets on the night before if the odds matches are strong. Know which offers are available on which races and know what offers you want to go for on each race.

3. Go Easy Early
Do easy low stake reloads (Free bet on a loss, 2nd place, 2nd to SP favourite, etc) the night before if possible or early morning. The Exchanges will have a lot of liquidity, even hours before the races – meaning that you will not need to worry about unmatched bets when laying.

4. Odds Boosts & VIP
Look out for the boosts and make a note to check the Heads&Heads forums facebook group hourly for any updates on potential boosts. These will come thick and fast, but if you are quick, you can create some pretty incredible profit margins.
Additionally, make sure you check your email over the 4 days. There will be plenty of bookmakers handing out ‘tailored’ offers to their VIP members. VIP has a loose definition in the eyes of the bookmaker, so you’re likely to get a lot more of these than you think and they are often very lucrative.

5. Enjoy It
Sounds cliché but don’t let it stress you out. Making money is great but taking the week off work and then running yourself into the ground all week isn't worth it. Matched betting is a side earner – something to enjoy and be done in your spare time to earn you some extra cash. It should not feel like a job.

6. A Small Exchange Balance Is No Excuse!
Is it worth taking part with a really small bank like £500'ish?
Even if you just did the offers that guaranteed a profit, you’d still make around £250 and this would not require a massive exchange balance. So yes, it is absolutely still worth it.
What If I Am Gubbed by Most Bookmakers?
This is a very common question and not an unreasonable one either. After all it is incredibly frustrating to have your account with a bookie gubbed. This is even worse when a huge event like Cheltenham is coming up.
Honestly, it will restrict your ability to make money, but it is still possible to make a profit from Cheltenham.
Extra place strategies are worth looking at. This is made possible because Extra place betting doesn’t rely on you using free offers. So, if the bookie has only restricted your use of free offers then this is your best option. Furthermore, if you are restricted from getting reload offers by a bookmaker, you should still be able to take advantage of odds boosts. So, keep an eye out for these on the Heads&Heads Forum.
Anything I Should Be Looking Out For?
One issue to be aware of is that of the smaller bookmakers offering very generous odds. If an offer looks too good to be true then you should be careful. This was particularly true a couple of years ago, when a lot of smaller bookies offered really good odds and then refused to pay out people’s winnings.
This problem is unlikely to occur again (happened in 2017), with bookmakers under the spotlight by legislators like never before. In addition, if you have an account with the bookmaker prior to Cheltenham starting, then you’ll be slightly more trusted by the bookie and thus they will honour your pay-out.
Should You Book Time Off Work?
Are you planning to take time off work during Cheltenham? This could be a great idea. As well as watching the races on TV, you can stay up to date with all of the offers during the day. However, we want to stress that taking time off work is by no means 'required' to make money during this week.
That said, speed will be key for so many of the opportunities during the festival. You may only have a small amount of time to place your bet or lose the opportunity. Being at home will, of course, make this a lot easier.
However, not everyone can take all 4 days off. So which days should you prioritise?
Simple answer really. The first day – Tuesday (10th March).

Epatante has caught the eye of punters during the early betting for the Champion Hurdle and, at the time of writing, rates as one of the strongest race favourites of the week. We likely have not seen the best of this horse.

Envoi Allen is priced as the standout horse in the Ballymore Novices Hurdle and traders believe he will take all the beating. A loss here will rate as one of the biggest upsets of the week. He won each of his first seven starts.

Defi Du Seuil can be found quoted in the Champion Chase antepost betting and the early money has been promising. He has won 13 of his first 18 and those stats aren’t to be taken lightly, certainly not by backers.

Tiger Roll is a fans favourite but have we already seen the best of Tiger Roll? As it stands Tiger Roll is the antepost favourite to win the Cross Country Chase and is a short price at that.

So whether you have been doing matched betting for a while or you’re completely new to the concept, with a bit of luck this post should be interesting/useful.

I first heard about CasinoCoin through a guy I work with back in January, who got wind of the rebranding/coin swap happening. He told me he bought over a million coins which piqued my interest as I figured he must have a lot of faith in this coin! I was following reddits cryptocurrency subreddit closely and there was never any mention of it (at the time I was following all the big news altcoins like TRX, REQ, IOTA etc) so I asked him to send me some links around it so I could do more research. After reading some articles and googling around for information I was more than comfortable to make CSC my main investment as it really is getting in on the ground floor on something truly amazing. I know a lot of people hype about various coins but here's the facts that drove me to go mostly all in on CSC:

1) Huge wealth of experience on the board of trustees/advisors

If you take a look at the board of trustees and the board of advisors you will see there are many people who held or still hold high positions in hugely successful companies in the gambling world. John Caldwell (Director of Advocacy) is a veteran of the online gaming industry who was instrumental to the success of PokerStars.com , Ashish Tawakley (CCO) worked at Betfair for almost 8 years, and on the board of advisors there are people like Lydia Barbara, Head of innovation strategy at Microgaming, the largest software gaming company in the world, and Lee Fenton, CEO of Gamesys. In short, there is an absolute goldmine of experience in the gambling world at the helm of CasinoCoin. Which leads me to my next point...

2) Huge connections on the board of trustees/advisors

Along with experience comes connections, especially seeing as the board members hold very high positions in their fields. I've already mentioned a small fraction of the huge companies involved with CasinoCoin, and with this network they are at a huge advantage of getting adoption of CasinoCoin quickly, widespread and with big name casinos/operators.

3) Regulation at the forefront

CasinoCoin is, by their description, "a digital currency, like Bitcoin, or Ethereum, that is designed specifically for the regulated online gaming industry". Their features and tools have been customised to meet the needs of users, operators and regulators. Back at the ICE 2018 expo in the Isle of Man, CasinoCoin was a featured partner of the Isle of Man Government and now CasinoCoin is running in the Malta Gaming Authority sandbox with an undisclosed live operator and processor on the live CSC blockchain with real gamblers. The fact that they are doing things "by-the-book" is a great comfort in the crytpo world where a lot of companies are getting into trouble because of government regulations etc. They also did not hold an ICO, which means they won't face what other companies are facing due to recent regulations on holding ICO's.

4) Genuinely good use case

The use case is well explained in their video from their website. CasinoCoin's codebase is forked from Ripple, with tweaks geared towards the regulated gambling industry (meaning it is its own coin/blockchain). The codebase and setup mean the transactions take only seconds to complete, and the fees are tiny (0.01 CSC). But CasinoCoins killer product is the Bankroll Manager (BRM). At present, each casino platform has a know-your-customer (KYC) onboarding process of submitting official documentation etc to prove who you are as a person, they also need to deal with anti money laundering (AML) and provide responsible gaming options. As gamblers, having to go through the KYC process alone for each platform you visit is a headache, and the process of cashing out can take days. The BRM will solve all of these issues. The CSC foundation has partnered with Jumio (a KYC service provider) to provide KYC as a built-in feature of the BRM. So gamblers will go through the KYC process only once and the BRM then shares that information with each Operator as the gambler interacts with them. The BRM also has AML measures rolled in with all transactions written to the blockchain, and features responsible gaming options. Sending CSC to/from the casinos will take seconds instead of days, and gamblers will be able to buy CSC with fiat and sell back to fiat (i.e. cash out) through the BRM. Which leads me to my next point...

5) The volume/price of CasinoCoin will be mostly driven by gamblers/platforms rather than traders

At present, the prices and volume of most coins on the market are driven by traders buying/selling them on exchanges. When the BRM is released, while CSC will still be tradeable, gamblers will use the BRM to buy CSC which they will send to the platforms to play, and the platforms will buy large quantities of CSC to have on their platforms for prizes etc for gamblers to win. The means that the price and volume of CSC will be mostly driven by both gamblers and platforms rather than traders buying/selling it.

6) Team with more focus on the product rather than hype

The entire team at the CasinoCoin foundation have been putting most their effort into creating their product and getting the ball rolling on partners for the BRM rather than creating hype and speculation about possibilities to drive the price up. Community Relay Nodes (CRNs) are being actively developed to help add some decentralization to the network. Plus, their BRM is due to be tested in the MGA sandbox along with a "yet-to-be-named" operator and processor who have officially submitted their intent to partner with CasinoCoin when the test concludes. This means they already have a real-world use in the pipeline, it is only a matter of time when it is all officially announced and released, and at that point the foundation will shift into full promotion mode with a fully working product with a real-world partner, which is when CasinoCoin will rocket.

7) Incredibly cheap to buy right now

Right now, we are effectively on the floor. I bought in January when it was at 5 sats and it's had a few waves over the months but its back way down to 6/7 sats (if you’re lucky maybe a 5 sat!) and what’s more BTC is way down so you can get more BTC for your buck these days, so even for a token $10 can get you about 0.0016 BTC, and at a 5 sat buy that’s 32000 CSC! I have been filling my bags with spare cash over the months and it really does add up. I don't expect these prices to stay this low forever as the main reasons it is low is due to being off many peoples radars due to a lack of promotion, and the exchanges being generally unknown and thus low volume. The foundation is actively working on higher volume exchange listings as part of their BRM so I've taken it as an opportunity to get in before things really take off.

8) No other gambling related coin is doing what CasinoCoin is doing

I've looked around and to be honest I haven't found any other gambling related coin doing what CasinoCoin is doing. For one thing, most other coins like Funfair, Edgeless, Decent.bet etc are in fact entire casino platforms with their own games etc running on the blockchain, which itself is a good idea but they all have their own tokens on their own platforms. CasinoCoin isn't a platform, its simply a payment solution that can be slotted into existing platforms (in fact it can even be used on the other crypto platforms casinos!) which is why it has a major advantage over the others. It is keeping things simple and solving real-world problems with existing gambling sites, it won't be reinventing or taking over existing casinos, it will be enhancing them.
In summary, all these points combine to make a really compelling argument in favour of CasinoCoin. It has a bright future ahead of itself, with a great product, a real-world use and all the right connections to make it go far.

My post may have had a little bit of sarcasm. The message I was really trying to say is that securing your account isn't something you can realistically do by yourself. We need better tools from Jagex, or at least help when things go wrong.
I believe the following subreddit rule is a little bit confusing:

The /runescape moderators, and the JMods who browse this subreddit, cannot help you with account issues. This includes bans, mutes, locks, hacks, billing, and rollbacks. Instead of posting about it here, check here for the official methods of contacting Jagex to resolve these issues.

This implies that there is an official method of contacting Jagex. In some situations, this is not true. It would also be more accurate to say all discussion on that topic is disallowed, because that's apparently the case.
The policy of silently deleting threads that don't follow the rule, instead of contacting the person, also seems questionable.
Regardless, I would like to discuss account security. I believe Jagex makes it far too easy for an attacker to gain access to your account via Account Recovery. A couple facts about the world:

Everything in the previous section, to the best of my knowledge, is a fact. In the unlikely event a JMod reads this post, I have some suggestions to improve the situation:

• Reconsider the minimum threshold of information required to recover an account. A lot of data has been breached from a lot of sources.
• The "Account Recovery" option should immediately send an email to the current registered email on the account being recovered. This email should include a suggestion to visit your Account Settings page to dispute the Account Recovery by providing proof that you are the legitimate owner. Giving the potentially legitimate account owner a chance to respond is critical.
• An email notification should be sent when an authenticator is enabled
• An email notification should be sent when your account is accessed from a new device
• An email notification should be sent when the registered email on the account is changed
• Users should be able to opt into text messages in addition or or instead of email notifications for major events relating to their account.
• Allow items to be Keepsaked for X days, during which period that item is a normal keepsake item but cannot be removed from the keepsake storage by any means. This allows very valuable cosmetic items to be "locked."
• Allow items to be "lent" to yourself for X days. The lent item behaves exactly as if someone else had lent you the item, but you are allowed to lend items for significantly longer durations (I would hope at least 1 month).
• Redesign your tools to allow item restoration of very valuable (1b+) items in the event of hijacking. I'm aware this was tried in the past - try again with a more limited scope.

I believe these features would dramatically improve a player's ability to secure their account considering the world we live in.
Given all this, here a couple suggestions normal players can follow to keep their RS accounts secure:

• Do not use the same account name on a non-Jagex website
• Do not use the same email account on a non-Jagex website
• Do not use the same "real" name on a non-Jagex website
• Do not use the same credit card on a non-Jagex website
• Do not use the same IP address (internet connection) on a non-Jagex website
• Do not use the same anything on a non-Jagex website. A would-be attacker can link pieces of information about you together if anything is shared.
• In the event you have already re-used the same "something" on another service that is not run by Jagex, you can secure your account by creating a new one.

Of course this list is mostly sarcasm. In all seriousness, the only way to keep yourself secure is by making it so data miners can't link your profile from one service to another. That means you need a unique user name, alias, email, everything if you want your RuneScape account to be secure. Some things are nearly impossible to make unique (e.x. good luck changing the name on your credit card). This is why if Jagex cares at all about security they should fix the Account Recovery system.
