Philips announced this November the release of its new budget projectors, the Neopix Easy 2+ (720p resolution, no wireless, 150€), Prime 2 (720p resoltion, wireless, 200€) and Ultra 2 (1080p, wireless, 250€).
I just bought the NeoPix Ultra 2, and as I didn't find any review on the web, I thought I'll make my own review. Some background information: I'm interested in projectors since I organized a movie club during my college years in 2000. I've got a cheap Chinese projector (480p resolution) as a present 3 years ago, and now I decided to upgrade it to a full HD projector. I was reticent about buying a Chinese projector (you never know what you get, sometimes they are advertised as fullHD, and in the feedback you can see it’s only 480p), but when I saw that Philips released some budget projectors, I decided to buy one.
A few words about the NeoPix Ultra 2 NPX642; this is Philips top device from the NeoPix line, released recently, in November 2020. It's quite compact. It has full-HD (1080p) native resolution, WiFi and Bluetooth. It's also a "smart projector" (as in smart TV) with Philips OS embedded.
I'm using the projector to watch movies at home; I prefer this instead of a television as it's quite cheap and it doesn't take as much place, it can be tucked away anytime.
Basics
The projector is quite compact, much smaller than its predecessor, the NeoPix Ultra; only slightly bigger than the Chinese projector. The build quality is okay.
The connectors are standard: 2 HDMI, 1 VGA, 1 USB, headphone jack, AV port and a microSD slot. It has WiFi and Bluetooth for wireless connectivity. It also comes with a remote control.
The cooling isn't as loud as my old projector (which made the sound of a tractor), it's not disturbing during a movie, but I think it still could be quieter. At this price range don't expect miracles.
There's a small adjustable foot to set the angle, which can be used to fix the projector on a tripod.
Image and sound quality
The image quality is good. The image is sharp even at the corners, the resolution is great, you can read even the small text. The colors are lifelike. It's really miles better than my old projector
The image is visible even if there is some light (good for presentations in an office), but for good contrast it's better to be in a dark room.
The keystone correction is digital: it means that the image is a bit distorted so the projected image is square. In theory this degrades the image, but thanks to the high resolution it isn't noticeable at all. It's much better solution than the keystone correcting lenses in budget projectors (which degrade a lot the projected image). An advantage of the digital correction is that it can correct the horizontal distortions too with 4 corner correction. A neat feature is the automatic keystone correction which uses the internal gyroscopes to get the angle of the projector.
The image can be flipped and rotated for back projection or ceiling mounting.
There are several image presets (cinema, eco, vivid...) and the usual parameters (white balance, brightness, contrast, sharpness...)
The projector has two 5W speakers, which is OK for a room.
Wireless connectivity

• Wi-Fi: It works well, it connected to my router without problems, I could update the firmware and watch Youtube videos...
• Bluetooth: I could pair the provided remote control and a wireless keyboard, but nothing else. It didn't detect my phone or any bluetooth audio device (speaker or headphone). What the fuck??? This should be a basic feature! I have no idea what causes this, but I'm afraid it's a general problem, not a faulty chip. Hope this can be fixed by a firmware update.
• Miracast, AirPlay: I tested the Miracast from a computer and a phone. There is a few seconds lag and the video is a bit choppy. So it can be good for presentations, but not for movies/games.
• Remote control: It's connected by Bluetooth, and besides basic menu navigation it also has a virtual pointer (mouse cursor) for the smart projector. The pointer barely moves very slowly if I move the remote slowly - so it gets off center quickly, I have to shake it to get back the pointer. Not very intuitive.

Smart projector
Now we are getting to the ugly part. Don't get me wrong, it's not completely rubbish. It has a few apps, like Firefox, YouTube, Netflix and VLC. So the basic is there, this could be enough for most of what you need. VLC is one of the best media players, it will accept any file format, it's miles ahead of the useless media players included in other projectors.
But this is all you get, there is no store to get other apps (so no Diney+ or Amazon).
There is also a settings menu with a few basic settings. Unfortunately several settings are missing, like the keyboard layout for external keyboards.
As I'm a quite technical person, I started to dig deeper, and it took only a few minutes to discover that "PhilipsOS" is actually a reskinned and oversimplified Android 6.0. I mean WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, PHILIPS???!!! Release an Android 6 device after Android 11 was released? Okay, it should be enough to power a projector, but still! Worse, it was probably written by an intern in a shady chinese startup (based on the forgotten Chinese references...)
Same with the hardware. It has a 4-core 1.4GHz processor and 1GB RAM(!!!), 16GB ROM (6GB free), so it's something like 8 years old technology. The problem is that this is under-powered even for Android 6 (especially the RAM), so I got several crashes and choppy playback for Youtube; Firefox is also slow. C'mon! For 10 more cents they could get a much better SOC, not this garbage.
Anyway, the advantage of discovering that it runs Android is that I could install apps! Yipee! First I installed F-droid as third party app store and a few more apps I downloaded from the Play store (most apps will run on Android 6). So I could get Kodi media center, Arte TV, Midori browser, etc. Much better! I repeat, don't expect much from the hardware, but adding a few apps increases considerably the usability of this interface.
Conclusion
The good: - Image quality, resolution, nice colors - Keystone correction - Sound is OK - Good connectivity - VLC media player - Possibility to install apps (even if it's cumbersome)
The bad: - Bluetooth audio not working - Miracast not really usable - Remote control could be better
The ugly: - Underspecced hardware - Android 6.0 (even if it's called PhilipsOS) - Bugs
This projector was a letdown for me. I mean it mostly does what it's made for, but it is more like a noname Chinese product sold by a shady seller on Alibaba. I wasn't expecting this from a Philips product. It has so many obvious bugs, that I'm sure there was no QA on this product.
That said, if you need a budget HD projector, it's OK - as long as you'll use a HDMI source or watch your local videos from a microSD card (VLC is a great media player). The image quality - while it cannot be compared to a good television set - is good, the 1080p resolution produces sharp images. But if you expect anything from the smart projector part, it will disappoint you. Note that you can install Android apps from APK files using the included file browser.

You can gain prisms by playing in events, max levelling a maxed special practiced photo (20 prisms only once per unique photo), login bonuses, and weekly/monthly missions.

Account Related

Q: What is rerolling and how/why you should do it? A: Rerolling is done when you start the game and use your first 300 prism photoshoot to see if you get photos you want (typically URs). If you do not, clear your game data, and continue restarting and trying that photoshoot until you’re satisfied with he outcome. Q: How can I save my account? A: Go to Other > Account Link to save your accounts. You have the choice of linking to Twitter, Facebook, and KLab ID.
Q: I have both paid and free prisms. Which will be used when I do a photoshoot? A: Free prisms are used first, but if you don't have enough free prisms (i.e., 275 free prisms for a 300 prism photoshoot), the game will take the remainder of the prisms out of your paid prisms.
Q: When buying LP, what quantity is the best to buy? For example, is it a better deal to buy 240 LP? A: There is a flat rate of 8 LP/prism. This is equal across all quantities of LP purchases.
Q: How do I increase photo space? A: You can buy additional space for your photos by going to the "other" tab in the shop. You get 5 additional slots for 10 prisms.

Photos and Idols

Q: How does levelling up photos work? A: You can use EXP, Skill orbs, and Sub Skill orbs to level up your photos. You can also use other photos to level up photos, but EXP/(Sub)Skill orbs are plentiful enough that you can save your duplicate photos for special practicing or selling for medals.
Q: How do I get a photo’s second (special) shot? A: You get a photo’s second shot by completing their memorial (moments) board. To do this, you progress through the memorial (moments) board by using Star, Dream, or Shine gems depending on the photo’s attribute.
Q: How do I select or change between the first and second shot of a photo? A: Navigate to the photo you want to change by going through the menus: Lesson > Photo List > Select your photo. Below the photo’s image, you can toggle between the ‘Before’ or ‘After’ for the special shot.
Q: How do I get special Star, Dream, and Shine gems? Is it worth it to exchange medals for special gems? A: Special gems drop randomly by playing songs. They are rare, but will drop on every difficulty level. The highest drop rate is on Pro on certain Campaign songs. Boost (x3) these campaign songs to maximize your chances. Special gems are rare but not that rare. It is not advised that you exchange even rarer rainbow medals for special gems. Additionally, special gems can be obtained by reaching certain event point milestones during events.
Q: Is there somewhere I can go to look up the list of existing cards and their stats? A: Yes! You'll find most of this information on the Shining Live Wikia.
Q: What do I do with extra copies of photos? A: If you special practice 5 copies together of a photo and raise it to max level, you will receive 20 prisms. This can be done only once for each photo.
Q: Should I special practice my duplicate URs and SRs? A: It’s up to you. Generally, new players should not special practice UR and SR photos, especially URs. They help to fill out your teams until you have enough unique photos. Additionally, some photos have valuable skills and are beneficial to have multiple copies of.
Q: What are idol specific gems (mics) and how do I get them? A: These are used to make additional progress on the memorial (moments) board and increase the photo's main skill, taking URs from 60% to 70%, and SRs from 50% to 59%. You can get these microphones as drops from certain campaign songs. Note that if you x3 boost a song and get a mic drop from it, the mic will not be multiplied; you will always only get 1 drop of it. You can also obtain mics from the Memorial Bangle Exchange (one mic costs 7,000 bangles).
Q: How do I get rid of the 11 N photos I started the game with? A: There is currently no way to get rid of them. You’re stuck with them.
Q: What is bond/affection for? A: Raising bond with an idol unlocks new voice lines, and if your affection with a boy reaches level 50, he will come closer to the screen.
Q: How do you raise affection quickly? A: You can tap the idol on your homescreen 3 times every hour. If you tap on the homescreen normally you get +5 affection per tap. If you tap the idol in portrait mode (the button in the top right on the homescreen) you will get +7 affection per tap. It is also efficient to play campaign songs with a team of only that boy.
Q: How do I raise heart links between two idols? A: Idols’ heart links go up by 1 between the leader and each supporting member of a team for each time they participate in a live. Duplicate characters will count towards the total heart link points (for example, a team of lead Otoya and 6 supporting Tokiyas will earn 6 heart link points after each completed live). Raising heart links between characters can earn you up to four relevant homescreen voice lines.

Gameplay

Q: What photo appears as a guest to other players? A: The leader of whatever team is set as your main team will appear for other players. It's helpful to set a photo of your highest rarity, or match the attribute of the current event.
Q: How useful are SRs in relation to URs? A: If you are starting out and do not have a full team of URs yet, SRs are a great addition to your team. SRs that have been special practiced multiple times, when of the correct colour, can rival a off-colour UR in strength so they are worth keeping around.
Q: What are the photo skills in this game? A: There are skills for scoring (cut-in bonuses, increased score per PERFECT note, etc.), timing (turning BAD and GREAT notes into PERFECTS), and stamina restoring.
Q: What are photo subskills and how do I get subskill orbs? A: Subskills are unlocked when you have special practiced one copy of a photo into itself. The subskills are also scoring, timing, and stamina restoring based, and they often have more specific activation requirements (i.e., 23,000 score added when you clear a song with over 80% of your stamina). Subskill orbs can be obtained from certain campaign songs as a rare drop. The main way of obtaining subskill orbs is from participating in Score Battle events and clearing the event missions.
Q: What are crowns, what do they do, and how do I get them on my photos? A: Crowns add additional stat boosts to your photos via a random roulette, making them even stronger. They are obtained by completing crown challenges in the practice tab. Note that only photos with maxed diamonds from special practice can do crown challenges. It is recommended that you aim to enhance a photo's highest skill that matches the attribute they boost (i.e., if it was a Shine Dance photo with both Vocal and Dance stats of 1200, you would want to try to boost the Dance stat). Crown challenges will give +200 in a desired stat. At each stage of the crown challenge, you are allowed to retry as many times as you like to get your desired stat. If you decide you want to re-crown your photo, you can choose the specific crown you want to retry with no penalty to the other crowns. The materials needed for each crown challenge are:

Q: What happens if I fail a song (run out of stamina), pick the wrong team, or the app crashes in the middle of a song? A: If you would like to exit a song without any LP loss, you can force quit the app (not exit the song in-game). The game only deducts LP after the "Live Clear!" is shown. Force quitting/app crashes does not counts as a play on a campaign song.
Q: What are the differences between photos obtained through photoshoots and photos earned from event rewards? A: Photos obtained through photoshoots are typically slightly higher in stats compared to photos given as event rewards released around the same point in time.
Q: Are there birthday photoshoots? A: Yes, each idol will have birthday box with a limited birthday UR. You can do up to 40 11-pulls in a birthday box. The first step is 150 prisms, the second step is 250 prisms, and the third step (and beyond) is 300 prisms. At the 10th, 20th, 30th, and 40th 11-pull in this photoshoot, you are guaranteed to pull the birthday UR. The other available photos for birthday photoshoots include some previously available photos, even if they are not in the initial/main pool (up to the Easter set). All photos obtained from these birthday photoshoots will only be of that specific idol.
Q: Do items in the gift box expire, and is there a limit of how many gifts can be stored there? A: Items in the gift box do not expire and there is a limit of 2000 gifts that can be stored there. Your LP bar no longer caps at 999 LP, so be careful when mass-collecting LP.
Q: What is the EXP/LP ratio? What is the most efficient difficulty to play for player level? A: Easy has the highest EXP per LP ratio. Here is a complete table:

Events and Memorial Bangles

Q:: How often does the game have events and how long do they last? A: Events usually occur twice per month, and last roughly a week. There is no set pattern or schedules start dates, so pay attention to the in-game announcements and tweets from the official Twitter accounts.
Q: When will EN get old JP events that were skipped? A: EN is getting exclusive runs of the events that were skipped over as an opportunity to obtain skipped UR rewards, SR rewards, and stories. Rejoice!
Q: Is there any other way of obtaining event photos outside of playing the event? A: You can obtain past event photos and stories through the Memorial Bangle Exchange (located on the right side of the homescreen). UR photos cost 30,000 bangles, SR photos cost 10,000 bangles, and event story passes cost 300 bangles.
Q: I got a copy of a photo by playing an event. Can I get additional copies through the Memorial Bangles? A: No. If you've already gotten at least one copy of an event photo, you cannot obtain additional copies through bangles. If you try to exchange for an event photo you already have, you will be given a photoshoot pass of that photo's rarity (i.e., you try to get a past event UR you already have, you will get a UR photo pass).
Q: How do I get Memorial Bangles? A: Bangles can be obtained as event rewards and by completing weekly/monthly missions.
Q: Do Memorial Bangles expire? Can I carry them over to the next month? A: Memorial Bangles expire on the last day of the month at 11:59pm JST. They can't be carried over from one month to the next.

Issues

Q: I entered a live but the song and notes aren’t playing, what happened? A: This is a problem a few people have experienced, and it's advised that you restart the app.
Q: The game lags and drops notes during songs. How can I fix this? A: There's no single fix for this problem yet, however, a couple things can be done to reduce lag. Increasing note speed can help on higher difficulties. Additionally, you can turn off stage effects and cut-ins. Both of these potential fixes can be accessed from the Live Settings menu. Others have reported that turning off your device's power saving mode can also reduce lag. You may also want to check if your device is on this list to ensure optimal compatibility. In your device's settings, you can also try turning off "Reduce Motion"(Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion). Additionally, you can clear your device's RAM to reduce the number of active apps running in the background.
Q: I've encountered Network Error 11003, what should I do? A: You may have lost internet connection, or it may be poor in strength. If you still have internet connection, tap retry as it may resolve itself, but it is advised that you seek a better connection.
Q: Help, my game crashed after I saw a notice for Error 3102, why did this happen? A: For now, we don't know what causes this error, but you should not lose anything if it occurs.
Q: Why aren't my ads loading, and why is it that I can't click them to start them sometimes? A: It's possible that you have a bad connection (either WiFi or Mobile network). Try to access them again later if they're not playing. If ads are not showing up, or issues persist, you can try reseting your advertising ID/tracking. For iOS: settings > privacy > advertising > reset ad tracking. For Android: settings > google / google services > Ads > "Reset advertising ID".
